About UMUSHINGA

Turning fragmented climate data into decisions people can act on

UMUSHINGA is an AI-enabled digital intelligence platform that integrates climate, geospatial, environmental and operational data to transform complex information into actionable risk intelligence — supporting predictive risk assessment, geospatial mapping, early warning and data-driven decision-making.

Our Story

From Rwanda's hillsides to Future Grids

Our technology has been developed through practical applications in Rwanda: climate-smart hillside irrigation using solar-powered technologies in Kirehe, AI-driven precision agriculture for smallholder farmers in Kayonza, AI-powered traffic management for Kigali's urban mobility, and climate-informed restoration of irrigation infrastructure affected by El Niño and La Niña events in Mwogo Marshland.

These deployments built deep expertise in climate-risk assessment, spatial intelligence, predictive analytics, early-warning concepts and digital decision support. We are now extending that same underlying technology from climate-sensitive sectors into infrastructure resilience — beginning with electricity-grid resilience through the EDP Energy Starter · Future Grids Track.

Rwanda gives us a demanding proving ground: climate variability, floods, erosion, landslides, drought and extreme rainfall create an urgent need for localized, early-warning and decision-support solutions. What works here generalizes across Africa and, through partners like EDP, to international energy markets.

Founder

Eng. Jonathan Nturo

Jonathan Nturo founded UMUSHINGA in Kigali, Rwanda, applying AI and geospatial intelligence to the climate and infrastructure risks facing Rwandan communities and, increasingly, energy operators across Africa.

“Our ambition is simple: to help move infrastructure from reactive response to predictive, climate-resilient operations.”

What We Stand For

Principles behind the platform

Real-world first

Every model we ship has been shaped by field deployments in Rwanda, not theoretical use cases.

Predictive, not reactive

We build for the moment before the damage — anticipating exposure rather than reporting it.

Sector-agnostic intelligence

One intelligence layer, adaptable across agriculture, water, mobility, disaster risk and energy.

Built for local conditions

Designed from Rwanda's terrain and climate outward, then generalized to Africa and beyond.
